The Gaia School offers a variety of courses and workshops in herbalism & plant spirit medicine, holistic healing, spiritual ecology, shamanism, and sacred ritual throughout year.
Workshops that are being offered this season are listed here. If you would like to register for a workshop please print out a registration form, send or email it to the address provided with the course deposit and you will be reserved a space in class.

Located 20 minutes from Brattleboro, 8 minutes from Putney, VT, and 30 minutes from Keene, NH. From 91, take exit 4 to Putney, a left after the ramp, and a right onto Main St. (Rt. 5) which will take you into Putney. In Putney, follow Rt. 5 straight for about 8 minutes. Take a left at South Pine Banks Rd., when you see the sign for Harlow's Maple Sugar. Follow South Pine Banks until you see Quarry Rd. on the left, the driveway is slightly further down Pine Banks Rd. on the right.

THE ROOTS OF SHAMANISM
May 31st - October, 2012
17 Thursday evenings, 5pm - 8pm
The course will center around building the foundations for shamanic practice through learning techniques of shifting consciousness and shamanic journeying. This course is intended to be a healing journey for each person, towards a deeper connection to the earth, self, and the realms of the spirits. Classes will include ritual, shamanic journeying, drumming, work with sacred plants, dance/movement, meditation, past life journeys, and creating sacred circles. Join us as we build the foundations for shamanic practice and healing work.

ART FOR THE SOUL
June 13th - September 5th, 2012
13 Wednesday evenings, 6pm - 8:30pm
Join us as we explore art from it's origins of shamanic practice and intimate connection with the realms of nature and spirit. In this course we will be journeying into the soul and collective unconscious by creating art in sacred space, facilitated by meditation and journeying. Through different mediums (from charcoal, paint, clay, to natural found objects), we'll connect to spirit, ancestors, and our own soul's history through what our hands create.

WILDCRAFTING & GROWING MEDICINAL PLANTS *** Coming Spring 2013
June - October, 2013
Tuesdays, 12pm - 5pm
This course is designed for those who wish to learn in the outdoors, from direct experience with the plants rather than lecture. We will spend our days harvesting medicinal plants in the wild, wildcrafting wild foods, medicine making from our harvests, growing medicinal plants, and harvesting those we grow. This is the course for those who wish to get their hands and feet dirty, those who like to wander in the wilderness, seeking the treasured medicinal and food plants that surround the Vermont landscape... Wild Foods As Medicine

Join us as we explore some of the wild edible plants of New England. We will share a feast of edible wild plants, learning how to harvest each one, visit them in the wild, and explore their nutritional and medicinal gifts. We will also discuss the environmental and social benefits of eating wild foods, and using invasive species for food. Join us as we feast on the fields of greens we have outside our doors!
Herbal Healing for Stress and Vitality

In this workshop we will explore various plants used to calm and heal the nervous system, reduce stress, lift/transform depression, and rebalance the mind. We will touch, smell, and taste these powerful herbal tonics for our nerves in class, and discuss how to prepare and use them daily. Blue Vervain, Kava, St. John's Wort, Passionflower, Skullcap, Oatstraw, and others will be explored and enjoyed together. Learn how to treat headaches, muscle tension and pain, anxiety, mild and severe depression, panic attacks, low self-confidence and nervousness, as well as general stress and exhaustion. This class is helpful to anyone, regardless of what your nervous system takes on daily.
Making and Using Home Remedies

Come learn how to make your own herbal medicines at home. In this class we will create
handmade herbal tinctures, salves, tea blends, herbal glycerites, herbal oils, compresses, and poultices. We'll discuss harvesting herbs, where to get quality organic herbs, and how to dose plants safely. We'll also discuss and taste herbs for some general common ailments as we create our preparations, and explore some of the local plants available to harvest for medicine making in this area. Prepare to get our hands dirty, and taste wonderful locally made medicines! Handouts and materials will be provided in class.

Herbal Healing with Vermont's Wild Plants
Learn how to identify and prepare local herbs for medicinal use. In this class we will cover herbal basics for healing yourself and your loved ones using plants common to Vermont. We will discuss rare, invasive, and common plants that have been important medicine to native people, and those that were brought by Europeans during colonization. Tips for identification and preparation will be discussed. Come learn about the plants you will see emerging this spring! Join us for this evening workshop and learn ancient practices of folk herbal healing for your home and family using your local plants.

Healing Herbal Oils & Baths
In this class we'll explore healing herbal oils and baths for the body and soul. Come enjoy different oils made from local trees and plants, discussing their uses and how to make them at home. Sage will also cover specific oils to use in baths and spiritual bathing specific to what each student is needing. Join us as we pamper and nourish the body and soil with luscious herbal care...

Aphrodite's Aphrodisiacs - Herbs for Love
Join us for a sexy evening of journeying with Aphrodite's herbs. You will be introduced to plants used for increasing the energy of love, sensual pleasure, and opening the heart. Come taste some of our most lovely aphrodisiac herbs, learn how to prepare them and blend them. Come fill up with some of Aphrodite's magic, and experience many plants sacred to Aphrodite, such as Damiana, Jasmine, Yohimbe, Hibiscus, Egyptian Blue Lotus, and Rose. Come enjoy the world of tempting and delicious aphrodisiac herbs and elixers!

Herbs for Meditation & Yoga
Join us as we explore plants and sacred resins helpful in clearing and calming our mind and nerves for meditation and yoga. We'll enjoy them together, discussing how to prepare and use them in your own practice. Plants we'll explore in class will be Sandalwood, Gotu Kola, Blue Vervain, Lavender, Egyptain Blue Lotus, Rose, Kava and others. Return home with some plants to begin exploring in your own meditation or yoga practice.
